Tensys® T-Line® Acquired by Major University and Teaching Hospitals Including
Stanford, University of Illinois-Chicago, University of Florida and
Northwestern
San Diego, CA | September 15, 2003 -- Tensys® Medical, the leader in real-time blood
pressure management, today announced the addition of several major
university and teaching hospitals to their roster of Tensys T-Line users.
Those institutions acquiring multiple T-Line® systems consist of Stanford
University Medical Center, the University of Illinois Medical Center at
Chicago, Shands Hospital at the University of Florida (Gainesville), and
the Northwestern University system in Chicago including both Northwestern
Memorial Hospital and Northwestern Prentice Women"s Hospital.
The Tensys® T-Line® is an FDA-cleared medical device providing
anesthesiologists better, more effective control over patient safety
during surgery by allowing them to quickly monitor and manage blood
pressure variations.
"During our clinical evaluation phase I was extremely impressed by the
performance and accuracy of the Tensys® T-Line's non-invasive, real-time
monitoring capabilities," stated J. Kent Garman, M.D., Associate Professor
of Anesthesiology, Stanford University Medical Center. "Now that we have
purchased the device and have completed the in-house training sessions
conducted by the Tensys® clinical specialists I am observing an increase in
staff utilization. The Tensys® T-Line® has exceeded our expectations," Dr.
Garman continued. The Stanford University Medical Center was ranked among
the top 20 of "America"s Best Hospitals" by U.S. News & World Report
in 2002.
"As luminary university and teaching hospitals begin acquiring and
using the Tensys® T-Line® we believe that physicians working on orthopedic,
urologlical, and bariatric cases, for example, will quickly observe the
benefits of non-invasive, real-time, continuous blood pressure monitoring.
In particular, the traditional cuff is often ineffective in monitoring
blood pressure during gastric bypass cases where patients are
traditionally rather obese," said Michael J. Martin, chief executive
officer, Tensys® Medical. "In this segment of the population, as well as
numerous others, our customers are confirming the clinical utility of the
T-Line® solution," continued Martin.
There are currently two primary methods used by anesthesiologists to
monitor blood pressure during surgery. The T-Line®, via its continuous,
real-time data, is far more effective than the traditional cuff method and
has clinically equivalent accuracy to that of the arterial line (A-line).
The Tensys device uses a transdermal pressure sensor to continuously yet
non-invasively measure blood pressure at the radial artery.
Tensys® Medical will be demonstrating the Tensys® T-Line® at booth #808
at the American Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting in San
Francisco from October 11-15, 2003. For more information on the meeting,

About Tensys® Medical
Tensys® Medical, Inc. is the leader in
real-time blood pressure management. The Tensys® T-Line®, the company's
lead product, was cleared by the FDA in November 2002 as a medical device
providing anesthesiologists with a non- invasive, continuous real-time
blood pressure management tool.
The Tensys® T-Line® measures a patient's blood pressure at the radial
artery. It offers anesthesiologists better, more effective control over
patient safety during surgery by allowing them to quickly monitor and
manage blood pressure variations. The T-Line®, via its continuous,
real-time data, is far more effective than the traditional cuff method and
has clinically equivalent accuracy to that of the arterial line (A-line).
The device is based on Tensymetry®, the company's proprietary and patented
technology, for non-invasively extracting the continuous, beat-to-beat
pressure waveform from the radial artery without the use of any external
calibration device. The science of Tensymetry® is broadly protected and is
the result of over six years of research and development. Prior to its
official product launch in March 2003, the Tensys® T-Line® was tested in
approximately 500 surgical cases nationwide.
Tensys® Medical is based in San Diego, California and was
founded in November 1995. For more information, please visit the company's
