Tensys® Medical validates accuracy of Non-Invasive, Real-Time Blood Pressure
Monitor with presentation of Temporal Performance data at the International
Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) annual meeting
San Diego, CA | January 22, 2004 -- Gregory Janelle, M.D. and Nikolaus
Gravenstein, M.D., of Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, will
present a 25-adult patient study which investigates the long term stability
of the T-Line® compared to conventional Invasive Radial Arterial Cannulation
(A-Line). This data demonstrates that there is no clinically relevant
degradation of performance or accuracy over the course of monitoring with
the T-Line® in comparison to an A-line. The poster will be presented in the
category of Equipment & Monitoring at the annual IARS Clinical and
Scientific Congress. A moderated Poster Discussion is scheduled for Monday,
March 29, 2004 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM in Grand Ballroom G-J.
"I've experienced the value of the T-Line® not only in
research but also in my clinical practice. The beat-to-beat information and
real-time waveform are obviously significant, yet the unwavering performance
over time is of equal importance," commented Gregory Janelle, M.D., Chief,
Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, University of Florida,
Gainesville. "There is no degradation in accuracy or performance of the
T-Line® compared to A-line measurements. Moreover, there is no incremental
maintenance such as flushing or catheter repositioning, associated with the
T-Line® system," continued Dr. Janelle.
"The T-Line® affords the anesthesiologist clinically
accurate, beat-to-beat data during periods of suspected hemodynamic
instability and also catches those unanticipated hemodynamic events due to
its tireless ability to track pressure over the duration of the procedure,"
said Michael J. Martin, Chief Executive Officer, Tensys® Medical. "The T-Line®
offers assurance from the moment it"s applied to the moment it's removed,"
continued Martin.
The International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) will
hold its 78th annual Clinical & Scientific Congress in Tampa, FL, running
March 27 "31, 2004. For more information about this meeting, please visit

About Tensys® Medical
Tensys® Medical, Inc. is the
leader in real-time blood pressure management. The Tensys® T-Line®, the
company's lead product, was cleared by the FDA in November 2002 as a medical
device providing anesthesiologists with a non-invasive, continuous real-time
blood pressure management tool.
The Tensys T-Line® measures a patient's blood pressure at
the radial artery. It offers anesthesiologists better, more effective
control over patient safety during surgery by allowing them to quickly
monitor and manage blood pressure variations. The T-Line®, via its
continuous, real-time data, is far more effective than the traditional cuff
method and has clinically equivalent accuracy to that of the arterial line
(A-line). The device is based on Tensymetry®, the company's proprietary and
patented technology for non-invasively extracting the continuous,
beat-to-beat pressure waveform from the radial artery without the use of any
external calibration device. The science of Tensymetry® is broadly protected
and is the result of over six years of research and development. Prior to
its official product launch in March 2003, the Tensys® T-Line® was tested in
approximately 500 surgical cases nationwide.
Tensys® Medical is based in San Diego, California and was
founded in November 1995. For more information, please visit the company's
